Brisbane International Film Festival Program Launches

The Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) has launched its 2022 Program this year, and for Brissie film lovers there is a tonne of content on offer. With major festival darlings with some of the biggest stars in the world to locally produced shorts, there’s much to love for those looking for a quality time on the big screen.

Among the bigger names in the festival lineup are The Banshees of Inisherin, which sees director Martin McDonagh reunite with Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, and Tar, starring award winner Cate Blanchett. There’s also the Cannes darling Triangle of Sadness, Carey Mulligan starrer She Said, and the star-studded Armageddon Time. While a number of these have already screened in Australia at other film festivals, it’s great for Brisbane audiences to get the chance to catch these on the big screen a little earlier than their wide release!

The opening night film is Seriously Red - a fun romantic comedy about taking chances, following your dreams and channeling your inner Dolly Parton. Directed by Gracie Otto and starring such talent as Celeste Barber, Bobby Cannavale and Rose Byrne, this is one not to miss.

For those on the hunt for shorter content, you won’t be disappointed; like every good film festival, BIFF has a wide array of interesting and intriguing shorts from Australian shores and from further abroad. Included in this is the output from Screen Queensland’s RIDE (Respect, Inclusivity, Diversity and Equality) Shorts Initiative - six inventive short films presented gala style at the RIDE Gala.

Aussie cast and crew won’t be the locals on display throughout the festival however, as the program also showcases some incredible locations right here in Queensland. This includes the Australian Premiere of Blacksite, starring Jason Clarke, Michelle Monaghan and Jai Courtney, and Beyond The Reef; both of which shot in Queensland.

It’s a massive program that showcases an impressive line-up of World, Australian and Queensland premieres, exclusive preview screenings, industry panels, filmmaker Q&As, and special events across a number of venues; Brisbane Powerhouse, QAGOMA Australian Cinémathèque, New Farm Six Cinemas, The Elizabeth Picture Theatre, Dendy Coorparoo, Dendy Portside and Reading Newmarket.

BIFF runs from October 27 to November 6, 2022. You can view the full program, and get tickets of course, to the festival at the link below.
